Overview

The Direct Support Professional is an essential member of our team, providing direct support to adults with developmental disabilities and mental health needs. As a DSP, you help individuals become more independent, engaged, and connected within their community. This includes support with daily living skills, personal needs, health and safety, community activities, and individualized goals.

The ideal candidate is dependable, on time, compassionate, patient, and able to problem-solve while keeping a positive and professional attitude. A successful DSP shows a true spirit of service and is committed to providing a safe, supportive, and structured environment for the people we serve. Reports to the Program Administrator. Non-exempt position.

Available Shifts

Day Shift
7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Thursday – Saturday and every other Sunday
Night Shift
7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
Thursday – Saturday and every other Sunday

What You'll Do

  • Treat each person with dignity and respect, remembering that staff are professionals working in the person's home.
  • Provide supervision according to each person's Individual Service Plan, and never leave a site or program without proper staff coverage.
  • Support individuals with daily living skills, personal needs, and community involvement, encouraging independence with positive guidance.
  • Assist with budgeting, purchases, receipts, and balancing accounts as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment, and report maintenance concerns to the Program Administrator.
  • Support hygiene needs and assist with scheduled medical and psychiatric appointments.
  • Respond to behavioral or medical concerns immediately and according to policy.
  • Assist individuals with their medications, and ensure medications are ordered and logged according to physician orders and company policy.
  • Complete timely, accurate documentation, safety checks, and supervision records in each person's service record.
  • Communicate concerns, changes, incidents, or needs to the Program Administrator or appropriate supervisor.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and reporting requirements, and represent The Gardens in a positive, professional manner.

Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least one year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, mental health needs, or behavioral support needs.
  • Valid driver's license required for positions that involve transporting individuals.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to pass required DHS background checks and drug screen, and maintain background clearance.
  • Dependable, responsible, and able to work assigned shifts.
